The dangers of pesticides and fertilizers have been well documented in recent years...both to the farm worker and to the consumer of the food. Conditions caused by these products include general ill-health, "environmental" illness, kidney failure, cancer, and many things in between...and probably others which medical science has yet to associate with this source.
Since the 1940's, pesticide use has increased by a factor of ten, In spite of this increase, crop losses from insects have managed to double in the same period. Merely switching to organic farming doesn't solve the problem, either, as pesticide residues still can be detected in produce long after the soil has been converted to farming by organic methods. Even in the best organic farms, trace pesticides can be detected in produce for years after pesticide application on the fields has been discontinued.
